BoA officially became one of the members of Girls On Top, a new girl group made by SM Entertainment. The soloist, dubbed the ‘Queen of Kpop’, will collaborate with girl’s generation members Red Velvet to aespa.
On Monday (12/27/2021) South Korean time, SM Entertainment announced a new girl group called Girls On Top aka GOT. BoA joined the first sub-unit called GOT the beat.
GOT the beat has seven members: BoA, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Wendy and Karina and Winter aespa.
Their positions have not yet been announced. However, Girls On Top has received rave reviews from fans of BoA, Girl’s Generation, Red Velvet and aespa who are classified as new girl groups. This is because the new group is SM Entertainment’s new project that will present a variety of combinations of female Kpop idols under the auspices of the agency.
SuperM Women’s Version
Many mentioned the birth of Girls On Top following the formation of SuperM which is a boy group consisting of K-Pop idols who have debuted before. In 2019, SM formed a boy group called SuperM consisting of SHINee’s Taemin, EXO’s Baekhyun and Kai, Taeyong, Mark, Ten and NTC’s Lucas.
Launching Herald Pop, GOT will give a different concept from each unit. The first song will be released by GOT the beat with a powerful choreographed performance.
BoA to Karina Aespa will give their performance on January 1, 2022 through the SMTOWN LIVE 2022: SMCU EXPRESS@KWANGYA concert which was broadcast online. The concert can also be watched for free through SM Entertainment’s YouTube channel starting at 12:00 KST and broadcast by Trans TV.
Two days later, got the beat sub-unit will release their first single on January 3, 2022 at 18:00 South Korean time.
Girls On Top Joins First-Fourth Generation KPop Idols
This new girl group seems to be a merger between KPop idols from SM Entertainment from the first to the 4th generation. BoA is known as one of the first generation KPop idols who introduced hallyu culture to China and Japan through her fame.
Girls On Top combines female KPop idols from the first generation to the fourth generation from SM Entertainment. BoA is known as the first generation KPop idol to spread hallyu with its popularity in China and Japan.
The owner of kwon bo ah’s birth name debuted in 2000. To date, the 35-year-old soloist has released 20 albums in between, ten albums in Korean, nine albums in Japanese and one In English.
BoA will also be the oldest member of the GOT the beat sub-unit which was born in 1986. It was followed by Taeyeon and Hyoyeon from Gilrs’ Generation who were born in 1989. While Seulgi and Wendy were born in 1994, Karina was born in 2000, the last Winter was born in 2001.
Before being announced as a member of the GOT the beat sub-unit, BoA was seen often appearing on television as one of the judges of the Street Woman Fighter dance show.
