Rapper Gangsta Boo Dies at 43 Years Old

Gangsta Boo, a rapper and a former member of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia, is said to have passed away on Sunday (1/1/2023) at the age of 43. According to a story from Variety published on Monday, 2/1/2023, Lola Mitchell, aka Gangsta Boo, was discovered dead on Sunday, 1/1/2023, about 4 p.m. No cause of death has been given.

Boo began his career as a rapper in his early teens. He was born on August 7, 1979, in Whitehaven, Memphis. Boo joined Three 6 Mafia shortly after the group’s 1991 formation, and he was featured on the group’s 1995 first album, Mystic Stylez.

He also departed the hip-hop group in 2002 after Choices: The Album in order to focus on a solo career. Boo made that choice shortly after T6Most M’s Known Unknown went platinum and won the 2006 Academy Award for Best Original Song for It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp from the movie Hustle & Flow.

Gangsta Boo recorded the 1999 Foxy Brown album Chyna Doll and the 2000 OutKast album Stankonia before leaving Three 6 Mafia. After 2002, Gangsta Boo contributed verses to several albums and songs, including Lil Jon’s Crunk Juice (2004), Yelawolf’s Throw It Up (2011) duet with Eminem, the Jeezy/T.I./Lil Wayne trio’s Prime Time Players (2013), and the Run the Jewels song Walking in the Snow from RTJ4 (2020).

Along with his partner Emmet Flores, Boo made an appearance on WEtv’s Marriage Boot Camp: The Hip Hop Edition in 2022. He and GloRilla collaborated with Latto on the song “Fuck the Club Up” in December (also known as FTCU). Just two weeks ago, the song’s music video was made available.

Other rappers in the scene expressed their sorrow at Gangsta Boo’s passing on social media. DJ Paul shared a picture of himself as a DJ without any more captions as part of the tributes to Boo.

Fellow rappers 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, Ludacris, Big Boi of Outkast, B-Real of Cypress Hill, and Lil Jon all commented on Paul’s Instagram post in response to it. In addition, Juicy J shared a picture of himself and Boo on Instagram with the phrase “broken heart.”
