The highest honor for American television, the 2022 Emmy Awards, has announced the lineup of winning readers or presenters for the upcoming September 12 event.

Reported by ET on Wednesday (7/9), the names in this first group are Will Arnett, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Bayer, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana DeBose, Taye Diggs, Hannah Einbinder, and Selena Gomez.

Then, there’s Mariska Hargitay, Jung Ho-yeon, Lee Jung-jae, Jimmy Kimmel, Diego Luna, Christopher Meloni, Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Jean Smart, Kerry Washington, and Natalie Zea

Meanwhile, the 2022 Emmy Awards itself will be presided over by Kenan Thompson who earned six Emmy nominations, two of which came last year thanks to his work on SNL and his sitcom, Kenan.

“Being part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is very exciting,” Thompson said in a statement last month.

“Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars of my favorite shows,” he continued.

In the 2022 Emmy Awards, Squid Game received 14 nominations that were divided into two events: Primetime and Primetime Creative Arts. Squid Game is also the Netflix show with the most Emmy nominations this year.

Meanwhile, Lee Jung-jae also expressed his pride to be included in one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood.

“First of all, I sincerely want to share my gratitude. It’s a great honor to be nominated along with other brilliant actors,” Lee Jung-jae said in his statement.

“I want to share this honor with Squid Game fans around the world, who show us endless love and support, and the Squid Game team who work so hard to make everything possible,” he continued.

With this achievement, Squid Game is officially part of the South Korean cultural product bandwagon that has made it to three of the four highest entertainment industry awards in the United States, namely the Emmy Awards for television, Grammy Awards for music, Academy Awards (Oscars) for feature films, and Tony Awards for theater, or commonly known as EGOT.

Before Squid Game at the Emmy Awards, Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (2019) had already started by successfully breaking through the thick walls of the Academy Awards as Best Picture in 2020, then BTS was nominated for the Grammy Awards for two consecutive times in 2021 and 2022.

Finally, Netflix has officially informed us that season 2 is coming soon. This information was shared via Netflix’s social media accounts on Sunday (12/6). The director and writer of Squid Game, Hwang Dong Hyuk also released a video statement, confirming that yes, there will be a Squid Game 2!

“A new season is coming soon. It took 12 years to realize the first season of Squid Game last year. However, it only took 12 days for Squid Game to rank as the most popular Netflix series of all time,” wrote Hwang Dong-yuk.

“As writers, directors and producers of Squid Game, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and liking our show,” he said.

In fact, confirmation regarding Squid Game Season 2 has been made three times. Back in November, the director confirmed that season 2 is on the way.

The announcement that month did not release details regarding Squid Game, which will be released in 2022. In fact, Dong hyuk promises that the protagonists will return like Lee Jung-jae and Seung Gi hun.

Then, the second confirmation earlier this year, Netflix co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said the Squid Game universe was just getting started.

This time the writer, announced that Front Man is back, Gi Hun is back and a second season is coming.

“And now, Gi Hun is back, the frontman is back. Season 2 is coming soon. The man in the full suit and carrying the ddakji may return,” he emphasized.

“We also introduce Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheol-su. Please join us once again for a new round,” she wrote.

There is still no release date for when Squid Game Season 2 airs on Netflix. It is likely that the South Korean Thriller drama will be published in the near future in 2023.

Dong hyuk also revealed that there are new characters who will fill the bloody storyline behind this children’s game, one of them is Cheol-su, Young-hee’s lover or doll’s male friend.
