Mnet's Head of Content Management, Kang Ji Hoon, at the 78th Korean Standards Commission (KCSC) Conference in December 2019, announced that they had officially stopped producing audition programs. This decision was taken because the voting manipulation scandal on Produce 101 went public.
After a year of vacuum issuing audition programs, early in 2021 Mnet launched a survival show titled Girls Planet 999. The show involves contestants from Korean, Chinese and Japanese negeara.
The requirements for participants who can join are women born above 2006. May be tied to an entertainment company, whether it already has debut experience or never at all. Registration will be open until February 21, 2021.
Trainees from other countries still have the opportunity to audition, as long as they are connected to entertainment agencies or residencies in Korea, China, or Japan. Full details can be found on Mnet's official website.
The first teaser for Girls Planet 999 was released on Janurai 11, 2021. This audition program collaborates with NCSOFT, the gaming company that founded a global K-Pop platform called UNIVERSE.
UNIVERSE will provide a wide variety of digital content and services for fans, along with the opening of a global voting system for debut line ups. The plan, through this platform Girls Planet 999 is broadcast globally for easy access to international audiences.
Despite many scandals, Mnet's audition program is almost always highly rated. Idol group formed by this television channel has a wide fanbase, both at home and abroad.
