Mnet Apologizes After Being Criticized by Netizens Over Azan Remix at Street Woman Fighter Event

One of the South Korean television stations, Mnet made the netizens upset with the action of the azan remix. The frustration can be seen from the many tweets of disappointment and condemnation to Mnet to the emergence of hashtags #MNETDisrespectAdzan occupy the position of trending topics on social media Twitter.

“Adzan is not an aesthetic song. Take down the song, create a new intro. You speed up and mix it. This is an insult!,” wrote one Twitter user named @NajihahSukuri.

“You already disrespect artists from your own homeland why bother to do the same thing to worldwide people just for the sake to spread hate?,” timpal account named @minahere27.

Warganet considers what Mnet does as a form of religious abuse. In response to the many criticisms from netizens, Mnet later issued an apology regarding the azan remix at the Street Woman Fighter event.

The apology letter was written in two languages, Korean and English.

“We sincerely apologize for the soundtrack used in the opening episode of Street Woman Fighter,” Mnet wrote as quoted from the Instagram page @mnet_dance, Thursday (9/9/2021). The South Korean television station reasoned that the sound they used was available on the official music streaming site.

In addition, they also said that the production team also felt that the sound was suitable for use as the show’s background music.

“We have no other intentions,” Mnet said. They claimed to be improving the music background of the event and re-uploading the video after editing.

“Appreciating your criticism, the video will be posted again after changing the background music,” Mnet said.

The South Korean TV station also promised to always listen to criticism and suggestions from around the world.

“We appreciate your interest in Mnet’s Street Woman Fighter,” Mnet said in a letter of apology posted on their official Instagram account.
