Nomadland officially became the best picture Oscar 2021 which beat 7 other nominees. The seven films competing in the awards ceremony were Sound of Metal, Minari, Mank, Promising Young Woman, The Father, Judas and the Black Messisah, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

His own victory has been widely predicted, given their run at other awards events. Before competing at the Academy Awards, Nomadland had already won the Best Picture award at the BAFTA Awards and Golden Globes.

This victory was the second after Nomadland also won the Best Director award for Chloe Zhao on Sunday (4/25/2021). The chinese director became the second female and non-white man to win best director after Kathryn Bigelow.

Nomadland Tells the Journey of Nomadic Life

The film tells the story of a woman’s journey with Fern starring Frances McDormand as a nomad. Fern lives in her van nomadically from state to state in the US.

The film is considered a success portraying nomads who have gone unnoticed by the Americangovernment.

Nomadland itself became one of the simplest films to win Hollywood’s highest award. Known, the film was produced with a budget of less than US$ 5 million or about 72.3 billion rupiah with non-professional actors.

For information, Zhao’s next film, marvel’s Eternals, has a budget 40 times more than Nomadland. Released by Searchlight Pictures, Nomadland premiered on drive in and debuted on the big screen. But its largest audience came from Hulu.
