Now its use has become more widespread, both in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

Aloe vera plant isthought tohave originated in the Canary Islands in western Africa. It has been known as medicine and cosmetics since centuries ago. In the Egyptian Book of Remedies, it is noted that in the time of Cleopatra, aloe vera has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for beauty, namely as a skin moisturizer. Meanwhile, its use in the pharmaceutical field was first carried out by the Samaritans around 1750 BC.

Aloe vera is thought to have entered Indonesia around the 17th century, which was brought by a farmer of Chinese descent. Nevertheless, the utilization of this medicinal plant in Indonesia is still small, only limited as an ornamental plant in the yard. As an ornamental plant, this plant does look beautiful because of the uniqueness of its thick prickly leaves and its yellow to orange floral pattern. The commercial use of aloe vera as a new beverage ingredient began in 1990, by farmers in West Kalimantan.

Aloe vera is the top 10 best-selling plant in the world. Has the potential to be developed as a medicinal plant and industrial raw materials. In the United States, Australia, and countries in Europe, aloe vera has been utilized as the raw material of the health food and beverage industry.

Aloe vera plants are known to have many benefits and properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and cell regeneration. In addition, it serves to lower blood sugar levels for diabetics, control blood pressure, stimulate the body’s immunity against cancer attacks, and can be used as a supporting nutrient for people with HIV.

In 1977 it was reported in the Drugs and Cosmetic Journal that the secret to the efficacy of aloe vera / aloe vera lies in the compounds it contains. Especially in glucomannan, essential and non-essential amino acids, oxidant enzymes, katalase, lipase, and protease. This enzyme helps break down skin tissue because it is damaged and helps break down bacteria, so aloe vera gel is antibiotic, while dampening pain. In the United States, aloe vera became popular in the 1930s. Aloe vera gel extract can be used to treat X-ray wounds and burns caused by radium radiation. Until now, research is still underway on antivirals and immunomodulators to help the treatment of HIV-infected patients. Meanwhile, laboratory research proves that acemannan is an immunoenbancer that can improve the monotive response to alloan-tigen.
