Jesse Lingard has impressed with his new team, West Ham United. The english midfielder had previously left Manchester United and joined West Ham for regular playing minutes.
The 28-year-old midfielder scored twice and led the Hammers to a 3-2 win. The match, held at Aston Villa, was the 22nd Premier League game, and aired in the early hours of the morning.
Under Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, he did not get half a season in the Premier League. In addition, he is also only played in FA Cup and Carabo competitions.
However, David Moyes, who now coaches West Ham United, has no hesitation in sacking him as a starter despite only joining last week. The results can also be seen as very satisfying.
Lingard scored twice in the 56th and 83rd minutes. West Ham’s first goal was scored by Tomas Soucek in the 51st minute. Villa, meanwhile, scored only one goal in the 81st minute by Ollie Watkins.
Lingard’s scintillating performance was witnessed by England head coach Gareth Southgate. With his good performances, the player who was once a key player of the Three Lions has hopes of joining the national team for this year’s European Cup.
Lingard played a key role as England qualified for the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, appearing six times in seven games. Since 2019, he is no longer playing for his country due to poor performances and lack of playing time at Old Trafford.
If he manages to maintain his best game performance, David Moyes believes Jesse Lingard can join Southgate’s squad for the European Cup.
“If he maintains his performance, maybe Gareth will call him back,” moyes explained.
“He will have his own ambitions and challenges to show people that he is on the same level. And he showed a very good level, Ross Barkley did the same for Aston Villa,”” moyes continued.
Moyes is the English player who left Chelsea and chose to join Aston Villa. The 27-year-old joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan on 30 September last year. He left Stamford Bridge to earn regular playing minutes.
West Ham United’s victory over Aston Villa yesterday moved them up to fifth in the Premier League table. They are now just two points behind Liverpool after being beaten 1-0 by Brighton.
“We have to step up one step at a time, we are making great steps now and all our players are constantly improving,” Moyes said.
West Ham United will next play Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday morning, 7 February 2021.
