Indonesia was forced out of the All England 2021 title after receiving an email from the British government. The cause is the presence of someone positive Corona on the same flight. The Indonesian badminton team landed on Saturday (13/3) at noon local time in Birmingham, England.

Previously, they had transited in Istanbul, Turkey, to board a Turkish Airlines flight to Birmingham. Summarizing from pbsi’s official website, upon arrival at Crowne Plaza Birmingham City Centre Hotel, the Indonesian group immediately underwent a PCR swab test. After 12 hours, the swab test results came out and all were declared COVID-19 negative.

From the test results, athletes can use the gym facilities at the hotel where they are staying, Monday (15/3) local time. The capacity of the gym that can accommodate 20 people is limited to 6 people only in one training period.

Then, the Indonesian team held a joint exercise at the Utilita Arena practice hall in Birmingham on Monday (15/3) afternoon and Tuesday (16/3) morning. The All England 2021 event then took place at birmingham arena, on Wednesday (3/17/2021) local time. Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon became the first Indonesian representative to perform.

The Indonesian men’s doubles player defeated his English rival Matthew Clare/Ethan Van Leeuwen 21-12, 19-21, 21-9.

Jonatan Christie became the indonesian men’s singles representative and made it through to the second round after defeating Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 21-13, 24-22.

Another Indonesian men’s doubles, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan also escaped to the second round. They overcame stiff resistance from English representative Ben Lane/Sean Vendy through rubber games 21-18, 19-21, 21-19.

Actually, there are still 3 three representatives of the Red and White team who competed on the same day. The three representatives are Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto vs Godwin Olofua/Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting vs Thomas Rouxel, Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti vs Dhruv Kapila/Jakkampudi Meghana.

Ginting, Fajar/Rian and Praven/Melati failed to perform because wo had been declared defeated. Meanwhile, all Indonesian representatives who won the match were also diagnosed with WO due to COVID-19. The main cause was a flight from Istanbul to Birmingham. A passenger has been declared positive for Corona virus, according to a BRITISH government report.

“Today must be the news that surprised everyone. The Indonesian team was in the committee field informing me that I should resign,” said Ricky Soebagdja, Team Manager of Indonesia, in a video caption on the Instagram account @badminton.ina.

“This is due to the problem of the real government. There is 1 email that goes to the entire Indonesianteam. Of the 24 teams leaving for Birmingham, 20 received emails from the UK government. Of the 20 who received this email were declared mandatory isolation for ten days,” he added.

“I asked the All England committee why up to 10 days of receiving emails. While there are our teams that do not receive emails.”

“Incidentally the last play was Ahsan / Hendra, after the game was entirely directly delivered to the hotel by the committee and mandatory isolation in the room individually.”

‘The committee can’t do much, they say the rules of the British government. I also informed the Embassy in the United Kingdom because it must be between the government and the government and I also ask for an explanation about the rules of COVID-19.”

“According to the All England 2021 committee, this was due to a flight from Istanbul to Birmingham, Turkish Airlines. There was one and we don’t know if the flight was affected by COVID-19.”

“The impact is precisely to us because of the flying. It’s been asked who got hit, they can’t explain,” Ricky explained.
