Lionel Messi has officially left Barcelona. The Argentine striker finally answered Cristiano Ronaldo’s challenge. Blaugrana made sure Messi would not renew his contract. Now, his glittering career with Barcelona remains history.
Barcelona itself has been Messi’s home since two decades ago. The 34-year-old striker also feels he is full of titles, including 10 LaLiga titles, 4 Champions League trophies, and 6 Ballon d’Or wins during his time with Barcelona.
Since parting ways with Rosario in the early 2000s, he has never changed clubs at all. This time he agreed to part ways with Barcelona since Friday (6/8/2021) early in the morning. The club’s intention to retain him was hampered by LaLiga regulations regarding salary cap restrictions.
“Although FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi have reached an agreement and a definite intention from both sides to sign a new contract today. This cannot happen due to financial and structural barriers (spanish league regulations),” wrote a statement on Barca’s official website.
“For me, life is a challenge. I love it and I want to make a lot of people happy,” Ronaldo told Gazzetta delo Sport.
“I want him to come to Italy someday. Like I accepted the challenge.”
“However, if he is indeed happy there, I respect him. Messi is a very good player, a good man, but I don’t miss anything in Spain. This is my new life and I’m happy,” Ronaldo said at the time.
And finally now Messi dares to answer Ronaldo’s challenge. He left Barca as a club legend. Lionel Messi has been reportedly targeted by Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. Despite the brave parting with Barca, it looks like La Pulga will not be heading to Italy and returning to face CR7 in Serie A.
