Napoli vs Juventus: Andrea Pirlo reveals his objections to refereeing

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo said his objection to the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Napoli. The match, which took place in the 22nd week of the Italian League between Napoli vs Juventus, was held on Sunday (2/14/2021) at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Napoli defeated Juventus 1-0 with a goal created by Lorenzo Insigne in the 31st minute with a penalty. The penalty was awarded to the referee after Juventus player Giorgio Chiellini hit Amir Rrahmani on the face with a flapping arm.

Andrea Pirlo questioned the referee’s decision regarding awarding a penalty to Napoli. He claims his team gets treated differently to other clubs in Serie A.

“We never gave opponents a chance to kick a goal, we lost because of a dubious penalty,” he was quoted as saying by

“If you give a penalty for that type of contact, trust me all the contacts in the penalty box will be penalized,” Pirlo continued.

Andrea Pirlo said it would be another story if Juventus were awarded a penalty because of similar contact. The former AC Milan and Juventus player sensed an unfair assessment of his team.

“If the penalty was given to us, there would be a lot of controversy and complaints,” he said.

“A number of incidents will be treated differently when facing Juventus because everyone often talks about us.”

To date, Juventus have received 5 penalties in Seria A this season. And put him level with Roma and Sassuolo as well as behind Milan, who have earned 14 penalties. The defeat in the Napoli vs Juventus match was the second time in five league games.
