Fifa’s ‘The Best’ footballer of the year has been named to Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. The 32-year-old became the player with the most goals in Europe, and he also helped Bayern win the Champions League. Lewandowski also defeated two other rivals, Messi and Ronaldo. This achievement is also a first for him.
“I am very proud and very happy. I must honestly say that this is an amazing day for me and for my club,” Lewandowski was quoted as saying by AFPon Friday (18/12).
“It’s an amazing feeling. Winning the award in front of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo means a lot to me,” he added.
Previously, he was also awarded as the best player by UEFA last October. Such achievements are certainly very proud. Although he has won six Bundesliga titles since debuting with Bayern and has been the top scorer in four of the last five seasons, he is still in doubt.
Robert Lewandowski may now be in the right time to beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the FIFA 2020 version of the player of the year title. Previously, FIFA officially announced the finalists of The Best FIFA Football Award 2020 on Friday, (11/12). The three finalists selected to compete for the best male footballer are Lewandowski, Ronaldo, and Messi.
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said Lewandowski was the most valuable striker in the world today. Last season he amassed 55 goals in 47 games, while leading Munich to several domestic and European victories.
With his sharpness, Robert Lewandowski helped Munich to the Champions League title after defeating Paris Saint Germain 1-0 in the final.

Ronaldo and Messi, meanwhile, have been in the top three of FIFA’s Player of the Year nominations for the decade. Except in 2018, when Luka Modric took home the FIFA Player of the Year title.
In addition to Robert Lewandowski, FIFA also awarded several awards in different categories. Like the best goalkeeper pinned to Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He defeated Alisson, who currently joins Liverpool, and Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-min won the Puskan Award or the best goal with his shot against Burnley in the Premier League on 7 December 2019. Meanwhile, in the category of best female footballer was awarded to Lucy Bronze from Manchester City.
