Thomas Tuchel is in the Premier League history books despite failing to lead Chelsea to defeat hosts Southampton in the 25th week of the Premier League’s highest competition of the 2020-2021 season. Southampton vs Chelsea match was held at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday (20/2/2021) with a 1-1 draw.

Southampton, who are 1-0 up at The Saints, took the lead in the 33rd minute through Takumi Minamino’s goal. It was Minamino’s second goal for Southampton in the Premier League this season. In fact, the Japanese winger on loan from Liverpool also managed to score when Southamton lost 2–3 to Newcastle United.

The Saints’ lead through Takumi’s goal lasted until the break. Chelsea could only score in the 54th minute through Mason Mount’s penalty. Earlier, the match referee in charge of the Southampton vs Chelsea match, Anthony Taylor awarded the away team a penalty after Mount was fouled by Danny Ings inside the box.

Mason Mount, who appeared as an executioner, did not want to waste the opportunity. The 12-pass kick changed the score to 1-1. Unfortunately, in the remainder of the second half both teams failed to score an additional score. Southampton and Chelsea should be willing to share a point at St Mary’s Stadium.

For the Southampton team, the Premier League result saw them break a record of six consecutive Premier League defeats. As for the away team, a draw at southampton’s headquarters leaves the Blues with an unbeaten record alongside Thomas Tuchel.

In total from six Premier League games under thuchel, Chelsea have won four and drawn two. Reported from Opta statistic, Thomas Tuchel became the 16th coach to avoid defeat in the first 6 games in Premier League history.
