Drew Barrymore is currently a hot topic in Hollywood due to allegations that she expressed a desire for her mother to pass away. However, she recently denied making such statements. Drew stated that her words were misinterpreted by the public.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Drew provided clarification. “I was going through a vulnerable period and trying to navigate a very difficult and painful relationship while acknowledging that it’s hard to do when your parents are still alive. And for those of us who have to seek that out in real time, it’s not something we can wait for because they can’t wait for it, not because they have to die,” Drew explained, as quoted on Tuesday (6/6/2023).
“Do not twist my words or claim that I ever said I wish my mother would just die. I never said that. I would never say that,” the Charlie’s Angels star emphasized. “In fact, I kept saying (in interviews) that I hope I never have a life where I wish that on someone because it’s painful,” Drew added.
Previously, Drew Barrymore revealed her relationship with her mother in an interview with a magazine in New York. In the interview, the 48-year-old actress talked about a troubled past with her mother. According to Drew, she felt jealous of friends who had overcome their trauma after their mothers passed away. “Their mothers are all gone, and mine isn’t. And I’m like, well, I don’t have that ‘luxury.’ But I can’t wait,” Drew said in the interview.
“I don’t want to live in a state where I wish someone would go away sooner than they should so that I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thriving and healthy. But I have to grow even if she’s still on this planet,” she continued, as quoted from Pagesix on Tuesday (6/6/2023).
In a later interview, Drew expressed regret for her harsh words. “I was mean, and I feel bad about it. I care. I will always care,” she said.
It’s worth noting that Drew Barrymore had a difficult relationship with her parents, especially her mother, in the past. However, they have been attempting to repair their relationship. When Drew was a child star, her mother, who was also her manager, often took her to Hollywood parties, which eventually led her down a path of drug and alcohol addiction.
