Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello have separated and are preparing for a divorce after seven years of marriage. They stated that the divorce was a difficult decision that they ultimately made.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple shared in a statement to Page Six on Monday (17/7) US time.
“As two people who love and care for each other very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we embark on a new phase in our lives.”
The news of their separation comes shortly after the Modern Family star was seen celebrating her 51st birthday with friends in Italy. Vergara was seen without Manganiello, 46, or a wedding ring on her finger.
Although he was not present for the celebration, Joe Manganiello also celebrated his wife’s birthday through a post on Instagram last week (10/7). He posted a photo of them at Vergara’s previous birthday celebration.
“¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía (Happy Birthday Sofia)!!!” wrote the True Blood star.
Many netizens had already suspected the couple’s separation from the birthday message. The speculation arose because Joe Manganiello directly used his wife’s name, Sofía Vergara, instead of using an affectionate nickname.
Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello got married in Palm Beach, Florida in November 2015.
When they celebrated their seventh anniversary in 2022, the 51-year-old Emmy winner shared a series of throwback photos from their wedding day, including photos of them exchanging vows and dancing at their reception.
At that time, she wrote a simple caption with “Love U” and a series of red heart emojis.
In August 2020, Manganiello told People that he felt he had made the right decision when deciding to spend forever with Sofía Vergara.
“I quickly realized that I could trust her, and she quickly realized that she could trust me,” he said about their relationship leading up to their five-year anniversary.
“And we’re both the kind of people who can put other people ahead of ourselves. I can put her wants and needs ahead of mine, whatever they may be, and she can do the same. Once you have that, you don’t let go.
“My instincts about her were right,” he added at the time.
They were seen together in June 2023 in Hoboken, NJ, when Vergara visited Manganiello at his new project location, Nonnas, with Vince Vaughn.
However, sources say that the couple has actually been growing apart for some time now.
“And they’re taking some time apart to think about their future,” the source said.
