Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” Breaks Box Office Records: $26M in 1 Day

Date:

The concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has generated 26 million US dollars, or approximately 395 billion Indonesian Rupiah, in just the first 24 hours of sales, surpassing the first-day pre-sales record of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which earned 16.9 million US dollars (257 billion Indonesian Rupiah), as well as several top films from Marvel, DC, and Star Wars.

These astonishing figures, as reported by Deadline on Friday, September 1, 2023, were solely from one cinema network, namely AMC, and do not include several other cinemas in the US such as Regal, Harkins, and Cinemark. This indicates that the numbers are much larger. However, AMC represents the largest footprint for cinemas at the Box Office with 568 locations.

AMC reported that less than three hours after tickets for the concert film by the singer of “Karma” went on sale, it had broken the record set by “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Separately, the US cinema ticket sales platform Fandango reported that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” shattered first-day ticket sales for 2023 and ranks among the top first-day pre-sales of other popular films, including “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and more.

“The Taylor Swift concert film not only became the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango but also performed like a superhero, ranking among the all-time best first-day ticket sellers from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics, and many more,” said SVP Fandango Ticketing, Jerramy Hainline.

A few days before the release of the Marvel film “Eternals,” pre-sales reached 13 million US dollars. However, The Eras Tour surpassed that. Even “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earned 20 million US dollars on the first day of pre-sales, nine weeks after its release in 2015.
