Serena Williams Welcomes Second Daughter, Adira River Ohanian

Date:

Serena Williams has given birth to her second child, a baby girl. This was announced by her husband, former world number one tennis player, on Tuesday (August 22), while adding that both mother and baby are in good health after a difficult delivery process.

“I am very grateful because our home is now filled with love. A healthy baby girl and a happy and healthy mother,” said Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, in an Instagram post showing him with Williams, both embracing their two daughters.

Referring to Williams, Ohanian said, “You have once again given me an incredible gift.”

Williams’ second child has been named Adira River Ohanian. In 2017, Williams, one of the greatest female tennis players of all time, won the Australian Open while pregnant with her first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

However, a few months later, Williams nearly lost her life due to a blood clot in her lungs following Olympia’s emergency cesarean section birth.

She spent six months in bed but managed to recover and return to tennis, five months later, in the Fed Cup doubles event alongside her sister, Venus Williams.

Williams decided to retire from tennis last year. “I am ready to be a mother and explore a different side of myself,” Williams said in her final match last year.
