Sydney Sweeney is spotted in the Spider Woman costume in the latest trailer for Madam Web, released on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The trailer introduces Cassandra Web, played by Dakota Johnson. This film adaptation of the comic book narrates the story of Madam Web, a mutant with psychic sensory powers. In the comics, Madam Web is an elderly blind woman suffering from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder that requires life support.
The trailer depicts Cassandra Web protecting three teenagers, including Julia Carpenter portrayed by Sydney Sweeney. They are under threat from Ezekiel Sims, a masked villain resembling Spider-Man. When Cassandra is stabbed by the villain, she experiences a flashback to her past life as a paramedic. She reveals to a doctor her visions of the future and begins to encounter the three friends from her vision.
These teenagers and Cassandra realize their interconnectedness and strive to prevent Ezekiel Sims from disrupting the future. They also exhibit spider-related superpowers. Notably, Julia is seen wearing the Spider Woman costume, mirroring the comic precisely.
Madame Web’s storyline unfolds in a new universe, distinct from the Venom and Morbius films of 2022 and the Spider-Man series starring Tom Holland.
The movie marks Dakota Johnson’s major franchise since Fifty Shades of Grey and Sydney Sweeney’s involvement following her roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and National Anthem. Sweeney is also set to star in an upcoming romantic comedy titled Anything But You.
Apart from Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, the film features Emma Roberts as Mary Parker, Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin, Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, and Mike Epps.
Madame Web is scheduled for release on February 14, 2024.
